and gold, “I enjoy sparkles and bling and I try to create the feel of them without the tacky quality they can sometimes have. I have a feeling that someday, I will love to work with diamonds and platinum!” In making a quality piece, Deme believes reading about how a designer achieved their goals and dreams is the most interesting way to help her. “I love hearing the weird way in which we all get to where we are and how bumpy the ride may have been.” At the age of 15, she interned with jeweller Karen Karch in New York where she was exposed to high-end client administration, market research, design and general store maintenance. Deme is still inspired by Karen Karch today,“I really admire her drive and her work.” She also has great respect for her former professors Rachelle Thieves and Helen Dorion and says, “Without them I think my work would not be at the level I aspire to.” Presently, she is her own model and says her jewellery requires a strong individual to wear it such as singer Katy Perry and comedian and actress Chelsea Handler. She says,“They both seem like strong women that I would be proud to have wearing my work.” Her greatest accomplishments to date have included being selected as part of Gallery Marzee’s Graduate Show this year and being invited to showcase at Dazzle’s Special Show, the largest selling contemporary jewellery exhibition in Europe, which will be held at the National Theatre in London from 5th November 2012 to 6th January 2013 and at the Royal ExchangeTheatre in Manchester from 9th November to 31st December 2012. She will also be exhibiting in Houston’s Center of Contemporary Craft as part of their Craft Texas Exhibition. For aspiring jewellery designers, she advises, “Get a good foundation. Some of your best ideas will remain that, ideas, if you cannot build upon them or at least know how to build upon them.” Finally, she told us about her ultimate goal,“From the age of 11, my goal has been to have my own jewellery store. I love to create something that will make another person smile. I would love to have a whole store of my own wonderful creations that would make people ‘ow’ and ‘aw’ over them.” www.wolfe-power.com
